May 14, 2025Mushroom Monday: Meadow Coral (Clavulinopsis corniculata)
Today’s Mushroom Monday mushroom is the Meadow Coral mushroom (Clavulinopsis corniculata) (also known as Clavaria corniculata). We’ve looked at some coral mushrooms before (Coral Tooth Fungus, Common Club Coral, Crown-tipped Coral, Small Club Coral, and Yellow-Tipped Coral) and in today’s post we add a new one.
What Do Meadow Coral Mushrooms Look Like?
Meadow coral mushrooms are generally yellow in color, though they can range from pale yellow to almost orange, with the tips and sides having the same color. They are branching and delicate and can range in size from around three quarters of an inch to three and a half inches in height. The branches can have varied shapes and sizes and are smooth and taper toward the base.
Where Can Meadow Coral Mushrooms be Found?
Meadow coral mushrooms are saprophytic mushrooms that can be found in many places throughout North America. They can be by themselves, scatter with others, or in groups. They grow under both conifers and hardwood trees, as well as in grass and in ground that has been disturbed.
