We have something great for you today: a compost blog post from our friends at Sienna Mulch. They’ve helped you Spring Into Action on our TrueTreeTalk blog before, and today they share some great information about the different varieties of compost they have. Compost is great for topdressing and a number of other things and it’s definitely a product you should consider. You can check it out and more at Sienna Mulch in Rosharon, TX.
A Compost Blog Post From Sienna Mulch
Compost is such a great additive for your landscape! You can add it to your veggie beds and flower beds, or you can top dress your lawn with it. There are different varieties of compost and at Sienna Mulch we carry 3 great ones:
- 5/16” Leaf Mold Compost – This compost has leaves, fruits and veggies, and cured manure as its starting materials. It’s great for topdressing your lawns.
- Mushroom Compost – This compost is made of pasteurized mushroom substrate that is blended with compost. The blend works great as a soil additive and it’s helpful in adjusting pH. It’s great for veggie gardens.
- Organic Compost – This is made from leaves, grass clippings, pre-consumer fruits and veggies, twigs, and horse manure. It’s a wonderful choice for vegetable gardens.
In addition to these composts, we also make our own leaf mold compost that goes into making our very own Mix Soil and Top Soil. Our compost is a mixture of a leaf mold and organic compost. We don’t use fruits or veggies in it. Instead, it’s made from aged and composted hardwood mulch along with aged leaves and grass clippings. The pile sits for months and months until it is ready and then we pass it through a screener to get just the right consistency. The screener has two ends. One end is for the bulkier material and the other end is where the good stuff comes out!
So, the next time you want to amend your raised beds, make a new raised bed, or want to top dress your lawn, make sure to ADD COMPOST!
